Niyati Upadhya is a visual artist from Rachana Sansad, Mumbai. She is formally trained as a sculptor and has expanded her practice across drawing, photography, sound and video installations, over the years. Born into a family of Hindustani Musicians she has also trained and studied the classical art form and currently is exploring the sound as a theme of her personal art practice. In 2016, Niyati developed an art programme, an arts initiative called Drawing Room, as a means to introduce contemporary visual art to children and adults through a thematic practice. The programme enables the children of all ages to visualize memories and experiences, and to narrate them through drawing and painting, exploring a range of mediums, methods and materials. In its first year of existence in Mumbai, the programme culminated in a first of its kind children’s exhibition titled Dear Imagination. Today the practice has grown to travel to cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune and Goa, facilitating experiences for children to explore mediums and themes.She lives and works in Bangalore.
